"All you need for a movie is a girl and a gun."
Jean-Luc Godard
Well, that's not quite ALL you need, but in the upcoming feature film, "BANG!," you've got a girl, a gun and a project that has evolved from novel, to play to feature film. "BANG! A Love Story," written by Anthony Mora, was originally published in 1998.
The controversial novel, which caused a buzz upon publication, due to one of the more unique sex scenes in recent fiction, tells the story of the relationship between a bright, precocious, gun-toting, teenage girl and a forty year old journalist who is drawn into a scenario which includes cults, kidnaping and a cross-country escape.
In 1999, Mora, who began his career as a freelance journalist, writing for such publications as "US" and "Rolling Stone," adapted "BANG!" (sans the controversial scene) for the theater.
The play was originally performed at the Acme Theater in Los Angeles and at the American Place Theater in New York, and featured Linda Cardellini, as the pistol-packing teen. Linda, best known for her role in TV's cult hit Freaks & Geeks, stars as Velma in the recently released feature Scooby Doo.
"BANG!" is a romantic thriller," Mora explains. "I omitted the controversial scene from the play, but I wanted to be faithful to the novel in the screenplay.
